Many go on to some of the region’s top post-16 providers, where they continue to build on the strong foundations laid here.

We are delighted that Ofsted has recognised Winchcombe School as meeting the Expected Standard in all areas, confirming that the school is providing a good quality of education, care and support for its pupils. The inspection highlighted the significant improvements made across the school and the strong foundations now in place to support continued success.

Inspectors found that pupils are proud of their school, feel safe, and benefit from positive relationships with staff. The report notes:

“Pupils at Winchcombe School are very proud of their school. They know that adults will help and support them with their learning and their wellbeing.”

The inspection recognised the school’s ambitious curriculum, improved behaviour, and inclusive culture. Ofsted praised the way staff support all learners, particularly those with additional needs, ensuring that pupils make positive progress and are increasingly well prepared for their next steps in education, employment and training.

A particular strength identified by inspectors was the school’s commitment to personal development and careers education:

“The careers programme is a strength of the school.”

Inspectors highlighted the wide range of opportunities available to students, including work experience, leadership roles, extracurricular activities, educational visits and enrichment programmes that help pupils develop confidence, character and ambition.

The report also acknowledges the substantial improvements made to behaviour and attendance. Ofsted noted that pupils understand the school’s high expectations and that:

“Lessons are calm and pupils can learn without disruption.”

Inspectors recognised the determination shown by leaders in driving school improvement, praising the swift action taken to strengthen the curriculum, improve attendance and enhance the quality of education. They also highlighted the positive culture amongst staff, noting that:

“Staff have great faith in the leadership of the school and are proud to work there.”

The report further reflects the confidence families have in the school:

“Parents are highly positive about the school. They praise the recent improvements in behaviour, the caring approach of staff and the wide range of extracurricular opportunities available for pupils.”
